Post-digital Printmaker

Building bridges with AI (Part 3) February 2020

The ability to 3d print an etching press is a wonder of our age. To have a machine create the image and then print the plate for the press goes beyond anything we could have imagined.

At the Open Press Project there is just this - a 3d printed etching press with free plans and with less than £5 of materials I was able create my own press.

Images were taken from the original Bridges series and printed on the 3d printer at different extrusions.

Results varied, each plate offering a different image when inked and run through the tiny press.
